Kristy has been a Child Welfare trainer for 10 years at the University of Maryland. In addition to having been immersed in child welfare practice over the course of her 22 years as a social worker, Kristy has worked with immigrant and refugee populations, youth in Federal custody, provided clinical supervision for mental health staff, worked with the geriatric and maternal population in the hospital setting, and has herself been a foster parent for teenagers in Maryland's child welfare system. Her experiences have informed her beliefs and practices, with an emphasis on dignity and worth as a person, the right to self determination, and the importance of respect and shared power when working with families and individuals who are trying to navigate the difficulties of varied life situations. |
