Bio: Dan M. Aune, MSW, President of Aune Associates Consulting offers wealth of administrative, program and clinical supervision, and business development experience. Along with Mr. Aune’s consulting experience he acts as the Executive Director of a Montana-based statewide mental health advocacy and education non-profit organization serving Montana. Before developing Aune Associates Consulting, Mr. Aune served as the Business Development Director and Senior Consultant for OPEN MINDS, a national behavioral health consultant group. In this role, he developed consulting business across the United States and provided consulting to State and County government and private primary care and behavioral health providers. Mr. Aune has managed numerous behavioral health (inpatient and outpatient) and residential settings across the country to include Kentucky, North Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, and Montana.Dan additionally serves as a technical assistance consultant for the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) and the University of Maryland – National Technical Assistance Network for Children’s Behavioral Health working to build operational capacity to assist tribal health care organizations to financial sustainability. This work involves assisting Tribal communities in development of sustainable primary and behavioral health delivery systems. Mr. Aune also participates on state and national advocacy groups to develop a recovery-based service delivery system and programming material appropriate to the needs of community mental health services.Dan acted as the primary incubatory and mentor for development Montana’s only peer-run recovery oriented peer service organization. Dan has been instrumental in a number of other states assisting AI/AN communities in the development of peer recovery services to include engaging state Medicaid and behavioral health divisions to work side by side with the communities. The work offers a financially sustainable approach to AI/AN communities recognizing the historical trauma and health care disparities these communities experience.Since 1998, Mr. Aune has maintained a consulting business specifically service American Indian/Alaska Native communities in the development of sustainable health care delivery systems. Mr. Aune received his dual Bachelors of Sociology/Social Work degree from Montana State University and his Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver. He maintains consultations in over 20 tribal communities across North America.
