Bio: Nia Clark is a Boston native with over 20 years of unique experience in the child welfare system; first as a transgender youth of color who grew up in foster care and as an adult professional now working with youth and young adults. Nia currently works at LifeWorks, the youth development and mentorship program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. As Mentoring Coordinator, she is responsible for overseeing more than 50 active one-on-one mentorship matches between LGBTQA youth and adults each year. Outside of her work at the Center, she is a consultant trainer for the Human Rights Campaign's All Children - All Families Project, a national initiative that provides a framework for child welfare agencies to achieve safety, permanency and well-being by improving policies, practices, and services for LGBTQ youth in care. Thoroughly impressed by Nia’s hard work and extensive background in child welfare, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) enlisted her help in launching a two-year national pilot project to provide more inclusive mentoring services and resources for LGBTQ youth by using the best practices of Clark’s own mentoring program. Since February of this year, she has been assigned to train BBBS sites in Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Diego as well as the national headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
