As a former foster youth and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Madison Sandoval-Lunn has combined her lived and professional child welfare experience to improve the outcomes of all children and their families since 2007. Formerly a Larry Bolden Scholar, Madison worked in the then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office to assist Senate Democratic offices in building a diverse workforce. Madison has direct service experience working LGBTQ+ homeless youth in shelters; providing independent living services to LGBTQ+, foster, and juvenile justice youth; and providing training foster parents and kinship caregivers. Madison independently contracts with the Nevada Partnership for Training (NPT) - University of Nevada, Las Vegas to provide LGBTQ+ training to the child welfare workforce and curriculum writing. On the behalf of NPT, she leads the State of Nevada’s AB 99 (LGBTQ+) child welfare and care provider training implementation workgroup. As an approved Nevada Registry Topic Trainer, Madison provides LGBTQ+ training to staff working with foster children and youth in shelter care. Nationally, Madison consults for JBS International, Inc. and the Capacity Building Center for States on matters related to child welfare, NYTD, CFSR, and positive youth engagement. Madison actively works for the local child welfare agency to increase the number of LGBTQ+ affirming homes for children in care through diligent recruitment and market segmentation. Madison is a member of the National Foster Youth and Alumni Policy Council, Foster Care of Alumni of America - Nevada Chapter, and the Clark County Independent Living Oversight Committee. Madison possesses a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas and will be completing her master’s degree in Social Work in 2020. |
